WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) congratulates Congresswoman Grace Meng (NY-06) on her historic election as Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC).

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Congresswoman Grace Meng on her election as CAPAC Chair,” said Sung Yeon Choimorrow, NAPAWF’s executive director. “As a trailblazer and advocate, she has consistently amplified the voices and needs of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, especially AAPI women and girls. Her leadership will be invaluable in ensuring that our communities are not overlooked in the national policy agenda.”

Congresswoman Meng has a long history of breaking barriers and advancing critical issues for AAPI communities. As the first and only Asian American member of Congress from New York, she has been a vocal advocate for equity and inclusion on the national stage. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she spearheaded the passage of the landmark COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, a pivotal response to the alarming rise in anti-Asian hate incidents. Rep. Meng has championed legislation supporting mothers in the workplace, addressing systemic inequalities in caregiving, and recognizing the essential, yet often invisible, labor of caregivers.

Chairwoman Meng’s leadership comes at a time when AAPI communities face unique challenges and opportunities. With over 20 million AAPI individuals in the U.S., CAPAC’s work under her stewardship will be instrumental in shaping policy that addresses racial equity, immigrant rights, and gender justice.

“NAPAWF is excited to partner with Chairwoman Meng and CAPAC to advance policies that empower AAPI women and families,” said Choimorrow. “Her proven commitment to our communities gives us great hope for a future where AAPI women have full agency over their lives, families, and communities. With her record of unwavering advocacy, Chairwoman Meng’s election signals a powerful moment for AAPI representation and leadership in Congress.”
