WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade, President Biden signed an Executive Order Protecting Access to Reproductive Health Care Services.

Isra Pananon Weeks, Interim Executive Director and Chief of Staff at the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) issued the following statement:

“The Dobbs decision was a callous one with disproportionately devastating impacts on people of color, individuals with low incomes, and immigrants.

Access to abortion is a fundamental human right; a right that is being undeniably eviscerated by the actions of the Supreme Court and state legislatures throughout the country.

We are grateful for the President’s willingness to take every action in his power to protect access to safe and legal abortion. NAPAWF also recognizes that the reproductive freedom of millions of AAPI community members and families remain in jeopardy without congressional action to codify the protections of Roe into federal law.

We call on Congress to act in the best interest of the AAPI community and other communities of color and to protect access to abortion care for all.”
