NEW YORK — Today, the White House revoked an Obama administration equal pay rule that required employers to disclose the amount they pay their workers by employee demographics. Ivanka Trump released a statement, supporting the decision, despite her frequent advocacy against the gender wage gap. National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) Executive Director Sung Yeon Choimorrow released the following statement in response:

“Ivanka Trump’s actions have spoken louder than her many empty words on protecting equal pay rights. Her continuing support of her father’s anti-women agenda sends a clear message that she does not stand with us.

“This decision is a blatant attack against women, specifically those most targeted by the pay gap — women of color and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women. Nearly a third of all AAPI women working full-time earn less than $15 an hour. For thousands of AAPI women struggling to make ends meet while making less than men for the exact same work, these federal protections mean the difference between paying rent, affording groceries or other basic needs.

“As an organization leading on issues impacting AAPI women, trans and gender nonconforming people, we understand that federal legislation aimed at combatting the gender pay gap was already insufficient and this move is a direct insult to working women everywhere. It is crucial that we call out this hypocrisy and continue to demand transparency in the workplace in the absence of government protections.”
