Washington, D.C. – Today, President Trump declared a national emergency to unilaterally bypass Congress and the rule of law to build a racist border wall.

National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum Executive Director Sung Yeon Choimorrow issued the following statement in response:

“President Trump today has shown us all just how racist and xenophobic he and his administration is. That he is willing to break the law, circumvent the separation of powers and the will of Congress, to intimidate immigrants and communities of color, including AAPI women and girls, is not just disgusting, it is illegal. This is a desperate and last-ditch effort to thwart the will of voters and the rule of law. We stand firmly in solidarity with immigrant communities and communities of color in boldly opposing this act of blatant racism. We know that our lives, our families, and communities are strong to withstand this repulsive attack. Make no mistake: the President’s imaginary and manufactured emergency is nothing more than wildly irresponsible political theatrics.”
