WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today marks the 49th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark decision establishing a constitutional right to abortion.
“Despite the right established by Roe v. Wade, people of color, including Asian American and Pacific Islander women and especially immigrants, have always faced unjust obstacles to getting an abortion,” says Sung Yeon Choimorrow, Executive Director, National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF).
“Our lived experiences tell us that we need more than the legal right to abortion – we need true access to the full range of reproductive health care, including affordable, culturally informed abortion care, to share in the fundamental freedom of self-determination. As we honor the courageous work of those who first fought for the right to abortion, we must work towards expanding our vision beyond the status quo and committing ourselves to a future where no one is left behind.”
