WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a brief order halting restrictions imposed by a U.S. District Court in Texas to mifepristone while the case proceeds through the appeals process in that state. The Supreme Court did not offer any reasoning behind its decision.
Sung Yeon Choimorrow, NAPAWF’s Executive Director, issued the following statement:
“The Supreme Court’s decision means that access to mifepristone is preserved for now. While we are relieved by the Court’s actions, the fight is not over. People seeking an abortion should have access to the full array of abortion care options based on long-standing, evidence-based medical research.
Mifepristone is one of two medications used in the most common medication abortion regimen used in the U.S. It is safe, effective, and has been used by more than 5 million people since it was approved by the FDA 23 years ago.”
