NEW YORK — This week, the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) announced that the organization’s current Interim Executive Director, Sung Yeon Choimorrow, will assume the role Executive Director, effective immediately.

NAPAWF, the country’s only national, multi-issue, progressive organization dedicated to social justice and human rights for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women and girls, has conducted a thorough year-long search and is honored to bring Choimorrow on board to lead NAPAWF.

“Sung Yeon Choimorrow brings many years of organizing experience in economic justice and immigrant rights movements, and we are excited about her leadership to drive NAPAWF deeper into an organizing and movement-building organization,” said Priya Murthy, the chair of NAPAWF’s National Governing Board. “Her years of experience in working across movements and organizational management leadership are what NAPAWF needs at this critical period in our country’s history. During this time, we are seeing tremendous opportunities to engage members in AAPI communities to build collective power for gender and racial justice. Sung Yeon is best poised to lead the organization in this endeavor.”

During her tenure at NAPAWF thus far, Choimorrow has already strengthened its grassroots presence in New York City, Atlanta and Chicago, launched new leadership development programs, and increased NAPAWF’s national visibility in media through strategic engagement in current affairs.

Choimorrow brings extensive experience in bridging local community organizing in order to inform and strengthen federal policy campaigns as well as working in coalition with partner organizations.

Choimorrow is a first-generation Korean immigrant whose migration experience deeply inspires and informs her trajectory in championing social justice issues that impact AAPI communities, especially at the intersection of race and gender.

“During the past four months when I served as Interim Executive Director, I have learned the power of what a group of motivated, dedicated and passionate people can do. I am honored to be a part of a growing movement in this country that is standing up against racism, misogyny, and all other forms of hatred the current administration symbolizes. It is truly an honor to lead this organization in such critical times. I am confident that NAPAWF will continue to make our mark with our communities and contribute meaningfully to the reproductive justice movement through the lens of immigrant rights and economic justice,” said Executive Director Sung Yeon Choimorrow.

NAPAWF, whose mission is to advance social justice and human rights for AAPI women and girls, serves as a policy advocacy and leadership platform for AAPI women to win reproductive justice, immigrant rights and economic justice.
