WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) hosted a special White House briefing on President Biden’s priorities for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA & NHPI) women.
“Our community is listening and wants to engage with the White House on the issues that matter most to us,” said Sung Yeon Choimorrow, Executive Director, National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum. “And it’s exciting to have a President who is taking clear and concrete steps towards improving the economic security of women, especially working AA & NHPI women who make up a large segment of our country’s front line and low-wage workforce.”
At the briefing, senior White House officials Pronita Gupta, Special Assistant to the President for Labor and Workers, and Erika Moritsugu, Deputy Assistant to the President and AA & NHPI Senior Liaison, outlined how the President’s Build Back Better agenda and infrastructure bill supports AA & NHPI women, in addition to ongoing efforts to stop anti-Asian hate and racism.
“President Biden’s ambitious agenda proposes historic investments in NAPAWF’s top policy priorities. From making health care more affordable, paid sick and family leave, to expanding the safety net and support for families with children, we have a rare moment in Washington to make lasting change for working families, especially those disproportionately harmed by the pandemic,” said Yvonne Hsu, Chief Policy and Government Affairs Officer, National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum.
The virtual event pulled together over 250 community members, local, and national groups from the AA & NHPI community. “This briefing is the first of many steps and we look forward to reengaging President Biden and his team for greater recognition of our growing, diverse, and vibrant community,” said Choimorrow.
