The Wage Gap

On average, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) women make 80 cents for every dollar white, non-Hispanic men made last year. But when you look past the average, many AANHPI women face even larger wage gaps.

For Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) women, the average wage gap is just 66 cents. But NHPI women from many ethnic groups face even wider wage gaps.

A closer look at the wage gap

The wage gap plays a large role in hindering women’s economic agency and autonomy. Within AANHPI communities, disaggregated data reveals that many women experience much larger wage gaps, particularly Southeast Asian and Pacific Islander women. For example, Tongan women earn only 59 cents for every dollar earned by white, non-Hispanic men.
