Today, the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) announced the departure of its longtime leader and Executive Director, Sung Yeon Choimorrow. After a decade of leadership and advocacy to mobilize and build social, political, and economic power with AAPI women and girls, Sung Yeon will be stepping down.
“It has truly been an honor to lead an organization into transformational growth to increase our impact for our community, especially for AAPI women and girls through community engagement and advocacy,” said Sung Yeon. “As an immigrant Korean American woman, this work has always been more than a job for me. It’s never easy to leave a place you love so dearly but I am ready to pass this important work on to the next leader who will continue to build power with our community.”
“We are endlessly grateful for Sung Yeon’s dedication to and commitment to NAPAWF and wish her well in her next chapter,” said Miriam Yeung, NAPAWF’s Board Chair. “Sung Yeon saw us through the COVID-19 pandemic, the seismic rise in anti-Asian hate, the Atlanta spa shootings and NAPAWF continues to be at the forefront of the fight to secure immigrant justice and reproductive justice for us all. NAPAWF and AAPI women and girls around the country are more visible and powerful today because of Sung Yeon’s tenure.”
Sung Yeon’s last day will be July 31st. Board member Christina Baal-Owens will step in as interim ED while the organization conducts a robust recruitment process for a new ED.
