Solidarity Statement in Support of AAPI Communities and Gender Expansive Individuals After the Election

In the wake of the recent election, we stand in unwavering solidarity with AAPI women, gender expansive individuals, and communities across the United States. This is a time of deepening uncertainty and heightened fear for many, especially within communities long impacted by systemic inequities, discrimination, and health disparities. The troubling rise in anti-Asian violence and discrimination only intensifies these challenges, underscoring our urgent commitment to justice and equity. We unite now to protect the dignity, safety, and rights of every AAPI individual, including our gender expansive siblings.

Advocating for Bodily Autonomy and Reproductive Justice

AAPI communities, including gender expansive people, face unique and often invisible barriers to reproductive healthcare. More than 60% of AAPI women report difficulty accessing essential services like birth control and cancer screenings, compounded by exclusions from critical healthcare programs due to immigration status, language barriers, and systemic neglect. We will resist any attempt to restrict reproductive healthcare access and will fight for inclusive policies that honor and protect the bodily autonomy of all AAPI people.

Fighting for Immigrant Rights and Economic Justice

AAPI immigrants constitute over 30% of the U.S. immigrant population and face significant obstacles to healthcare and economic security under restrictive immigration policies. Many AAPI women and gender expansive individuals work in low-wage, essential jobs without adequate protections, leading to disproportionate poverty rates among Southeast Asian and Pacific Islander communities. We remain committed to advancing policies like the HEAL for Immigrant Families Act and the Raise the Wage Act, which address the systemic inequities harming AAPI immigrants, workers, and gender expansive individuals.

Addressing Violence and Ensuring Safety for All

The alarming rise in anti-Asian violence has deeply affected AAPI communities. AAPI individuals, including women and gender expansive communities, face escalating hate incidents that threaten their safety and well-being. We unequivocally denounce all acts of hate, violence, and discrimination against our communities. We are steadfast in our efforts to promote policies that protect all AAPI individuals, including increased funding for community-based safety programs, culturally responsive mental health resources, and strengthened hate crime reporting systems.

Defending Democracy and Ensuring Civic Participation

AAPI voters are essential to the fabric of our democracy, with increasing numbers identifying reproductive health access, anti-discrimination protections, and inclusive policies for gender expansive communities as critical priorities. Yet, AAPI communities—particularly those with limited English proficiency—face significant voter suppression. We will not relent in our fight for a democracy where every voice matters, and where historically marginalized communities can fully shape the policies that impact their lives.

Moving Forward in Unity

We recognize the deep-rooted challenges facing our communities, especially those who have borne the heaviest burdens of systemic oppression. Yet, we know our strength lies in unity. Together, we are powerful. Led by and representing AAPI communities, including gender expansive individuals, we stand in solidarity with all people facing these ongoing injustices. We will continue to organize, resist, and advocate tirelessly for a future where AAPI communities—and all communities—live with dignity, freedom, and opportunity.

To everyone in our communities, especially our women and gender expansive siblings: We see you. We stand with you. Together, we will build the future that all people deserve.
