Monica Thammarath, Co-chair, NAPAWF DC chapter, is one of 15 fierce women being profile as part of the 15 APA Women Leader Spotlights Campaign

Monica is a progressive Southeast Asian mama who has dedicated her life to closing the achievement gap for communities of color. Currently a Senior Liaison for the AAPI community at the National Education Association, Monica brings her whole badass San Diegan, Lao-American lady, daughter of refugees, Cal-alum, Southeast Asian American activist self to the table. She’s unapologetic for who she is and refuses to be siloed in a field that narrowly defines what an educator is. A rising super star in Washington D.C., Monica never forgets her community back at “home”: she takes them with her to the table. Lover of cats and laughing really loud, Monica is a humble, beautiful womyn who believes in people power and progress.
