WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) wholeheartedly supports Julie Su as the next Secretary of Labor. Su currently serves as Deputy Secretary of Labor.

Sung Yeon Choimorrow, NAPAWF’s Executive Director, issued the following statement:

“Julie Su is an exceptional, highly qualified choice as Secretary of Labor. The depth and breadth of her experience – spanning from her work with Chambers of Commerce and industry associations to her tenure as California’s Secretary of Labor to her current role as U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor – has positioned her as a candidate with unparalleled qualifications.

Deputy Secretary Su has proven herself to be an indispensable leader within the Department of Labor and throughout her extensive career she has been recognized as an expert on workers’ rights and civil rights. She has worked tirelessly to protect the most marginalized among us, including low-wage workers and immigrants.

While her professional accomplishments are impressive, Deputy Secretary Su’s personal journey that paved the way to her remarkable career is not to be overlooked. As the daughter of Asian immigrants, her family’s path to the United States was an arduous one, not unlike that of so many Americans. Deputy Secretary Su grew up supporting her family’s small laundromat business, understanding the importance of language and access while translating for her parents.

Deputy Secretary Su is a trailblazer and lifelong champion of women workers. Our country’s leadership must be reflective of those who are directly impacted by its policies and she has demonstrated throughout her career the commitment and experience necessary for leading the department responsible for protecting the rights of our country’s most marginalized.

NAPAWF is proud to support Deputy Secretary Julie Su and urges President Biden to move expeditiously to nominate her as the next Secretary of Labor. “
